As handsome men, sometimes we find ourselves faced with difficult decisions. Namely, deciding what is more important to us, skateboarding or ladyflirting. Last night I was faced with this decision, as it was the premier of a skateboarding video. I decided to go after the girlies last night as I did the last time there was a video premiere. As a result, I feel somewhat out of touch with the skateboard scene of Hawaii and the world as well, but I think I can still tell you all what it is that I missed, incase you missed it too.
The setting: Local Motion, the time: 7 pm, the event: the Globe Video Premiere, of the movie called Opinion. The name is a sort of pun because its meant to describe the way the movie provokes tears of joy through the zesty movements of the men who star in it. The video was really good from what the kiddies say so I'll tell you all a little about it. The theme of the video was skateboarding. It featured skateboarders doing what they liked best, skateboarding. The filmers used cameras to actually record the movements of these skateboarders as they pranced gaily on their wooden toys. One of the highlights in the video was when a skateboarder flew up into the air and spun his board around under his feet but somehow landed back on it and rolled away. It was something that you'd have had to have seen to believe.
The connection between the scenes in the movie was something else that was really interesting. It was a subtle detail, one that would be more apparent on the DVD version of the video; All of the skateboarders had the same stickers on the sides and bottoms of their shoes. I'm not sure exactly what it said because my friends said their feet were swinging swiftly as they soared through the skies. Some of the theories I heard were that the stickers said Gobel or Gelob or Goblin or what a friend named Tammy thought, Grant, because in the credits it said something about a guy named Grant. It was a really artistic thing to do in my opinion. All of these seemingly unconnected events were actually brought together with these stickers on the otherwise normal shoes.
Apparently, there were over 1000 different skateboarders in the movie, each with a different costume. It would be hard to categorize all of these different skateboarders and figure out what their goals were, but luckily the video divided itself into the different schools of skateboarding at which these 1000 skateboarders study. It was interesting to see each skaters performance attire, but what was perhaps more interesting was the difference between each of these schools. The Chad Tomson school taught a homoerotic style of skateboarding where the skateboarder tempts the viewer by flying the board up through his legs towards his genitals, but then puts his feet back on and continues to roll, all in a split second. I believe the maneuver is called a hard flip because the board simulates the male erectile process, that is the coming up and going down. The Rodney Radcliff school had something a little different which payed homage to an audience member. The skateboarders who went to the Rodney school learned to stand with their feet turned in, and do a little twitch as they did the skateboarders moonwalk which is when the board is upside down and the skateboarder rides backwards on it in this fashion.
The atmosphere at the premier was a very festive one. Banners and flags were hung to give that UN feel to it. There were prizes awarded for the most prompt skateboarders as well as prizes that were awarded to the luckiest skateboarders. It was nice of them to reward viewers for their skills in both timeliness and luck. The event was a fun one indeed and Im sad to have missed it.
In the future, I think I will show up at these things because its great to see the fine arts in action. Also, I there are rumors that celebrities show up at these events. At the Audio premiere, Spiderman was spotted, and last night I heard Michael Jackson was seen in the audience. I hope to see everyone at the next video premiere!!!
